Project DEPLOY
Developing Engineering Practices for Local Organisations and Youth
Aftrak LTD is redefining the future of green energy and agricultural mechanisation in Africa by building the continent’s first manufacturing hub for micro-electric tractors in southern Malawi. At its core, Aftrak is a green-energy innovation company tackling three of Africa’s greatest development challenges, zero hunger, energy access, and climate resilience.
Why?
Feasibility studies at several sites have been completed. Global supply chain partnerships in place. Design for assembly completed
What's next ... DEPLOY
Across Africa, more than 800 million people lack reliable electricity, and most smallholder farmers still rely on manual tools to cultivate their fields. In Malawi, these challenges are magnified: only 8.9% of the population is connected to the grid, and 85% of households depend on subsistence agriculture. This keeps yields low and labour requirements extremely high; especially for women, the elderly, and child-headed households.
Aftrak’s solution is transformative. Our micro-electric tractor, powered entirely by solar energy, mechanises Deep Bed Farming (DBF); a proven climate-smart agricultural method that increases crop yields by up to 300% and farmer income by up to 12-fold. Coupled with our modular solar microgrid, communities gain dependable energy access. Together, Aftrak forms an “economy in a box”; boosting agricultural revenue making energy affordable for off-grid communities.
Our next critical step is to localise production. By building an Aftrak manufacturing hub in southern Malawi, we unlock the scalability needed to meet an initial accessible market of over $100 million across Malawi alone, with a replicable model suitable for all of sub-Saharan Africa.
Project DEPLOY will create the first manufacturing hub for Aftrak tractors in sub-Saharan Africa. It will do this by utilizing existing local expertise; creating a resilient supply chain to deliver Aftrak

Where?
...Blantyre of course
Blantyre is an ideal location for Aftrak’s first manufacturing hub. The city offers excellent transport connectivity, including major highways and rail links, facilitating efficient distribution of products across Malawi and neighboring regions. Blantyre also has a skilled labor pool, particularly in technical and manufacturing sectors, which ensures that Aftrak can recruit and retain qualified personnel. Additionally, its proximity to key agricultural zones enables close collaboration with farmers and rapid deployment of Aftrak solutions, maximising impact and operational efficiency.
